I love this poem. I love the lines “normal was their scent on your collar, normal was their voice resting in your ear, normal was their touch on your skin” I love you reading this! So beautiful, my friend. Thank you for blessing me and the world with your beautiful self! 💖💕❤️❣️🙌🏻👏🏻

I lost Lisa, my partner and love, March 10, 2024. Ten years later I’ve mostly integrated that loss into my life. I never thought that would happen.

Two weeks ago, we had to put our 5-year-old cat, Spotty, to sleep. Spotty was rescued from the street in Antigua, Guatemala in 2019. She came to us as a foster in June. In March 2020, we decided she was already home. She traveled with us from Guate to Mexico in 2021, and then back to the US last year.

On April 28, 2024, she stopped eating. April 29, she was admitted to the veterinary emergency hospital. The morning of April 30, they called to say she had terminal lymphoma. We put her to sleep a few hours later.

Spotty was the sweetest cat I’ve ever had. She became my therapy cat, by my side (mostly on my lap) during COVID and two international moves. I cannot believe she is gone, and I am devastated.

She had a wonderful life with us, and at some point, that will be enough. It isn’t now.

Thank you for this poem, John. You have an uncanny knack for writing and sharing exactly what we need, exactly when we need it.
