I wrote this piece for my aching heart a few years ago. I am unsure if I have ever shared it with anyone before. Each word was exactly what I needed to read. This poem was written by my heart who was rightfully concerned I was about to give up.

I uncovered this poem today and realized that I still have some self-love work to do.

If you need a reminder of how brave you are by simply surviving all you are enduring…these words are for you:

untying the invisible knots
around your wrists and getting
out of bed in the morning
to feed your children breakfast

is courage

gazing into the mirror and
looking past the new wrinkles
time brushed on you while you slept and reminding yourself of your natural elegance

is also courage

walking out the front door of your
house even though there is a
red ghost on your porch shrieking
"They'll never understand you!”

is also courage
