Moonlight Language
Creativity and a poem on being enough
Two pieces about the moon in one week? Something must be going on inside of me. A new phase? Am I waxing or waning? Who knows? Dennis would be proud!
Some thoughts on creativity I’d like to get off my chest first.
For me, creativity is asking “how many universes can I create today?” It isn’t to be taken lightly. It’s a miracle that I love talking about in all my guided writing adventures.
Is the act of creation a miracle of science or spirit. Is it something else? Are we carrying around these lightning seeds inside of us that are waiting to bloom? Is creativity about soul or skin? Both?
I don’t know if the first word I write is the big bang of happenstance or the first light of Eden. I suppose I don’t care where it all comes from. I just love the ability to take the invisible swirl inside of me and to give it form.
How many universes can I create today? All of them. And then I will do it all again tomorrow.
Here is where the swirl took me last night. It brought me back to a universe where I get to carry a moon around with me.
Last night I discovered I had an extra moon in my pocket. It wasn’t a metaphor Or a mental break. It was a real moon. Small as a button. Warm as a first kiss. Just sitting there, not apologizing for its glow.
I don’t remember
putting it there.
You think I would have
but I don’t remember
most things anymore.
Only the important stuff.
Like the hush of summer air
moving through tall grass.
And how it’s the truest form of
prayer I have ever heard.
I pulled the moon out
and placed it on my desk.
It spent all night
rolling around
looking for somewhere
to belong.
I understood.
This morning
I watched it dissolve
into a puddle
of its own blaze.
The kind of breathing light
that appears for a second
on the wall
like art.
Before it disappeared,
the moon,
as briefly as it lived,
seemed completely certain
it had been enough.
I am trying
to learn that language.
HUMAN WRITERS NEEDED!
There’s a belief underneath every writing experience I offer:
If you bring forth what’s inside you, it helps you.
If you don’t, it starts to work against you.
I don’t want to make you a better writer. I just want to help you bring something honest into the light.
This isn’t just for writers.
It’s for anyone who feels stuck creatively…or feels that quiet pull to explore the wilds of their own heart.
We write to stay human.
In these retreats, we slow down, get to the center of ourselves, and write without pressure to be good or share anything we’re not ready to.
What I hear most afterward is this:
“I feel like myself again.”
If something in you has been nudging you, you can follow that here:

How I would love to carry the moon with me,
Provide its light,
Sing it songs,
Let it lull me to sleep…
There’s more I could say
Talk to text isn’t functioning properly and it’s ruining my flow don’t you see?
I’ll have more when it’s functioning properly
And I can get back into it
The way I want it to be…
Silly brain work with me!
I wonder at my worth
I feel it in others
But, to feel my own worth
seems somehow
overly confident and
confidence is a fleeting,
moment in this movie
of the life I’m living.
It appears on the screen,
then poof
gone….
In the moment it appears,
the past argues with
all the past failures.
I occasionally argue back -
These are my moments of
courage.
Courage requires persistence.
I will put on the costume I
call courage.
I will pretend courage until
I can stop pretending.
Any time now …
pretending
will become something
I can leave behind.
I learned many hard things
as a child ….
I believe I can learn courage.
Complete, unconditional
Courage
COURAGE…
